ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – Today’s World’s New Name
“Artificial Intelligence is the science and engineering of making important machines, especially important computer programs. It is related to the similar task of using computers to understand human intelligence, but AI does not have to confine itself to methods that are biologically observable”, (John McCarthy, 2004). Artificial intelligence is a domain that combines technology with vigorous datasets in order to solve problems. It is developed to apply knowledge and ability like a human brain to perform activities that cannot be solved quickly and efficiently by a human.
AI has already been integrated in various multinational companies and is being rapidly adapted by various small scale and medium scale industries. Leading companies using artificial intelligence to boost their sales and performance include Tencent, JD.com, Microsoft, etc. along with Amazon, Alphabet-Google, Alibaba and many more. As we can see the most valuable companies in the world operate on AI, which makes it evident to believe the future is all artificial intelligence. Most of the companies in the near future will follow the path of these multinationals and implement artificial intelligence in their operations to keep up with the pace of the fast changing world.
Despite the fact that artificial intelligence has been around since the mid nineties, it has gained popularity only in recent years. “According to International Data Corporation (IDC), the spending on AI will reach $12 billion in 2021 across Europe and it estimates a double-digit growth until 2024”, (Valuer.ai, 2021). The major industries where artificial intelligence is currently being used are Healthcare, Retail and E-commerce, Logistics and Transportation, etc. In the healthcare industry AI is currently being used to determine more definite diagnosis and treatment for diseases, robotic surgery and many more sectors. Retail and E-commerce websites use chat bots to solve generalized queries of the customer. Various product recommendations on E-commerce websites are provided by AI algorithms according to previous purchases of the customer. These are just a few examples of how the world is developing with artificial intelligence. The transport industry is at the forefront of revolutionizing transport through self driving cars using AI. Companies like Tesla, Volkswagen, and Volvo are leading the research in this field. Hence it can be seen that all the major industries use artificial intelligence to function. This shows that integrating artificial intelligence in the education system today will prove to be beneficial for the students in the future.
On the other hand, every technology has its advantages and disadvantages. Any technology used in excess will lead to disruption. Therefore, it is essential to explain the consequences of over exercising a technology to students. In conclusion, every industry will function on artificial intelligence in the coming years.
